2 Stroke Vertical Crankshaft Engine Features
Description
Almost all Briggs and Stratton engines are 4 Stroke however, there was a very short period up to around 1991 in which a 2 Stroke engine for walk behind lawnmowers was produced.
They were generally fitted to machines specifically designed for use on steep slopes.
The engine resembles the much more widely seen "Max" 4 Stroke engine however, the fuel cap is on the left side of the engine and exhaust on the right(viewed from behind).
Being 2 Stroke, there is no oil fill dipstick or sump and rather than having a bolt on cylinder head with fins around the spark plug, the head face is fairly flat with a hole drilled in each corner in order to access the 4 allen style bolts at the base of the cylinder.
The Model, Type and Code numbers are stamped into the pressed steel cowling just above the spark plug
The Model number will begin either 0957 or 0967.
